So I’ve been thinking
are there any other girl Irish dancers out there who like girls?

You are not the only one. I am too and am very glad to know there’s more of us. We’re just a really heteronormative community. Sucks.
This might be a little generalising, but a lot of dancers are younger, and so may not really be able to define their sexualities yet, or might not be comfortable doing so.
While its true that a large portion of Irish dancers are younger, there are still plenty of older dancers out there, especially in the tumblr community. Outside of that, just looking at the number of dancers in older age categories at feises shows that plenty of people in high school, college and beyond are dancing. Obviously, there is no set age at which one will be comfortable defining their sexuality, for some it never happens, but their are plenty of dancers at an age where they could be capable of doing so.
I would say that the ID community is more accepting of male homosexuality than female. I have known a few out male dancers, and nobody thinks much of it. With girls, although there is no outright homophobia, female queerness is just not spoken of. And for those of us who are queer (using that as a blanket term here) there is just this feeling that we shouldn’t say anything that I don’t quite know how to describe.
It is also worth noting that in response to my original post I received multiple anon messages telling me that I was not alone, but also noting their desire not to be outed to the Irish dance community, which is very telling.

Today at worlds
I sat next to Ciara Sexton while watching the senior ladies dance! And I actually spoke words to her like a normal person, granted they were just like “sorry” and “excuse me” when she moved past me into the aisle of seats, but still.
Also I saw Claire Greaney’s set, holy shit it was amazing! One of the girls in front of me said “everybody else go home, she wins”, I loled.
Rocking the O’Shea Chaplin nails for worlds this week! I went to watch our little eight hand today and they did wonderfully!
I also casually stood next to Ashley Smith while watching Brogan McCay dance her light round, nbd. Of course, I was too shy to say hi to Drew Lovejoy when I walked by him.
Also happy birthday to Isabel who danced at her first worlds today on her 11th birthday!!

No matter how many times I watch this, at the end I’m always like wtf just happened? I can’t comprehend it.
